Clean Air Act of 1970- The Legislation That Founded The EPA
"The immediate greatest impact of "Silent Spring's" publication in 1962 was the passage of the Clean Air Act in 1970 which founded the EPA, which later expanded with further legislation such as SARA (Superfund). In addition 1970 saw the passage of the Williams-Steiner Occupational Safety & Health Act which founded the twin agencies, OSHA or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in the Department of Labor for inspection and enforcement of regulations and NIOSH or the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health in the CDC for research and recommendations for OSHA standards."

"The Clean Air Act of 1970 was the first legislation the US government created to protect the ambient air quality. This act was created because the air was having adverse impacts on human health including drinking water. The act regulates how much factories can burn and release into the air. If the toxic emissions are not collected by air pollution control machines, you can be fined millions of dollars." -Chris Lane ACES
